My name is David Lynch. Probably a lot of you would say I'm just another nut rolling out of Hollywood and I should stick to filmmaking or whatever and not voice my opinion about politics. But still I am an American.
I was born in Missoula, Montana. My father was raised on a wheat ranch near Highwood, Montana. My mother was raised in Brooklyn, New York. My parents met on a nature hike in Durham, North Carolina as they were both attending Duke University. My father and mother were both in the Navy during World War II. My mother typed code in New Jersey and my father was chief of the engine room on a destroyer in the Pacific. I have a brother and a sister. I grew up in a great family in the good ol' U.S. of A.
I was asked by The Huffington Post to look at two different political commercials. One by President Obama's Team called, "Romney Singing," and one by Mitt Romney's team called, "Bump In The Road."
President Obama's commercial shows Romney singing, "America The Beautiful," while different texts tell of Romney's outsourcing of jobs overseas to China and his outsourcing of jobs to India and Mexico and also texts telling of Romney's offshore bank accounts.
Romney's commercial is built around a line said by President Obama, "There are always going to be bumps on the road to recovery." This commercial has 15 or 20 jobless people holding signs describing their plight during this economic crisis and each person saying out loud, "I am an American, not a bump in the road."
I think Romney's commercial is a dirty lie and phony as a three-dollar bill. Anyone who can think would know that when President Obama said the line, "There are always going to be bumps on the road to recovery," he did not mean that out of work, suffering Americans were bumps in the road. What he meant was that to dig ourselves out of this deep recession, it's not going to be all smooth sailing. There are going to be some setbacks, but we are on the road to recovery. We are on a good road to getting out of this recession.
President Obama's commercial laid out FACTS about Romney. Not made up boloney, but FACTS. Romney really does have offshore bank accounts, and Romney really has outsourced jobs outside of America. He's singing, "America the Beautiful," but in reality, he is definitely not as patriotic as he would have people believe.
People who are out of work seem to be mesmerized by Romney's mantra of, "jobs, jobs, jobs." And they desperately want these promised jobs - so much so they've turned their hope into trust for Romney. I think they are putting their trust in absolutely the wrong place.
The way I see it, Romney will say anything in order to win. He will promise anything in order to win and he will lie in order to win. The big problems will come if he does win. People will soon see the truth of Romney, but then it will be too late. I think Romney is tight with the giant international corporations and the decisions he will make will serve them, not the citizens of the United States of America.
I don't know if any republicans or independents are reading this, but I would beg you to think twice or three times before voting for Romney. I believe President Obama is getting this country all working again and taking care of all the citizens, not just a few, as we go toward a brighter and brighter future.
The thing of politics has really divided us as a country. We are not the United States of America, we are the Divided States of America. To me, Democrats and Republicans have pretty much become like two stupid football teams fighting each other all the time.
There's a line, "United we stand, divided we fall." I think there are many, many things all of us agree on and if we're going to go forward we better start working on those things - AND WORKING TOGETHER. I think President Obama is our best bet for uniting the country and leading the way to a truly bright future for all. I think Romney will take us to a bad place. I think he will sell us down the river of no return.
