The Bay Area Premiere of Stupid Fucking Bird, an irreverent, contemporary and hysterical version of Chekhov's The Seagull runs at San Francisco Playhouse through May 2, 2015.
In this modern update of Chekhov's The Seagull, award-winning playwright Aaron Posner wages a timeless battle between young and old, past and present, in search of the true meaning of it all. Aspiring young director Con, played powerfully and woefully by Adam Magill, rampages against the art created by his mother's generation while nubile young actress, Nina wrestles with aging Hollywood star and Con's mother, Emma (Carrie Pafff) for the affections of renowned novelist Trig(Johnny Moreno). Played by Martha Brigham, we watch Nina go from innocent and inspired to broken and self-loathing. In the process everyone discovers just how disappointing love, art, and growing up can be.
Aaron Posner's bold and cheeky update of "The Seagull" thrusts us into a country house where unrequited desire is drowned in equal parts alcohol and sarcasm.
