Modern women are too far from what women were like several decades ago. The female species were looked down and were thought of as the weaker gender. Men were the head of the house as they were the ones working and bringing home the money. Women were just left home to take care of the chores and the kids. They didn’t have a say on things and it was always the men’s ideas and decisions that were heard

Women are different today. They are independent and they have the strength to balance work and family at the same time. Not only would you see them working in different industries, they are also now handling top positions that make them in charge of the business operation. Even the top position in the US was recently open to a woman. In fact, there have already been women in the world who were chosen to lead their country either by election or by appointment.

It’s clear that women have proven that they are more than qualified to perform various tasks. However, there are still areas that are difficult for them to explore like for instance the tech field. This is because the opportunities for women in this field are still limited. It is still men that rule in this area.

The female population in the tech world may be small, but there are those who soared high and showed everyone that women too can reign in this area. You may know Bill Gates as the co-founder of Microsoft, but did you know that his wife Melinda Gates also made a name in this industry? She co-founded the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and with her leadership, donations reached millions of dollars, which funded various good causes, including projects on education and health.

The biggest rival company of Microsoft, which is Apple, also has a woman leader that made an impact in their business. Angela Ahrendts is the senior vice president for retail of Apple and she was the first ever female to become part of Tim Cook’s executive team. Prior to becoming Apple’s SVP for retail, her knowledge and skills also made it possible for one fashion house to rise again after being on the verge of bankruptcy. Now that’s truly an amazing leader!

Ursula Burns is another powerful woman to look up to in the tech world. She is the CEO and Chairman of Xerox, which is a Fortune 500 company. Not only did she break the gender barriers, but racial discrimination too, being the first and only African-American woman to handle the highest position in the company. With her guidance, the company’;s earnings reached over $18 billion dollars!

Keep reaching for your dream if you wish to become part of the tech industry. Here is an infographic that lists the top women who made a name in tech this 2016 to inspire you. If they were able to make it, believe that you too can make it happen.
