'Pregnant Man' Divorce: Thomas Beatie Granted Sole Custody Of Children

'Pregnant Man' Scores In Court

Thomas Beatie, the transgender man known as the "pregnant man," has been granted sole custody of his three children, his lawyers reported Thursday. The temporary orders grant Beatie's wife, Nancy, supervised parenting time.

The couples' divorce proceedings will continue until a final trial date is scheduled in September.

Beatie, who made headlines in 2008 when he became the world's first known man to give birth, first announced his split from Nancy, his wife of nine years, during an April 2012 taping of "The Doctors."

He filed for divorce one week later, claiming that Nancy had physically attacked him on multiple occasions. According to TMZ, Nancy responded to the claims with court docs of her own, denying Beatie's allegations and saying it was her husband who emotionally and physically abused her.

In a hearing that same month, a judge issued a restraining order against Nancy, limiting her time with their three kids -- Susan, Austin and Jensen -- to six hours per week, according to TMZ.
