Emergency C-Section Saves Fetus After Pregnant Mother Is Murdered

Detroit Police are looking for a gunman who they say shot and killed a pregnant woman during a triple shooting Sunday afternoon on Detroit's west side, WXYZ reported.

During the shooting outside a home on Meyers Road, police say the gunman fatally wounded a 25-year-old man who was outside the house. The 23-year-old woman, who was nine months pregnant, and a 75-year-old man went outside when they heard a commotion, WXYZ reported. The gunman shot them, too.

The woman was killed; the elderly man was critically injured but his condition has since been upgraded for the better.

All three victims are related, according to WXYZ, and the cops say it's likely the shooter knew the victims.

"It seems like there is a specific target,” Detroit Police Sgt. Michael Woody told WWJ.

Other family members inside the house at the time weren't harmed.

While doctors at Henry Ford Hospital couldn't save the mother's life, they were able to deliver her baby girl through an emergency C-section, the Detroit Free Press reported. The baby is miraculously healthy and being cared for by hospital staff.

The gunman fled in a gray, four-door 2006 Pontiac G6 with the Michigan license plate CLB3064, WXYZ said. The car may have belonged to one of the victims and has a broken-out rear window with blue tape around the edges. The shooter is reportedly in his 20s, with a slim build and wearing a gray hoodie.
