In 2013, Mako broke through and struck gold in the electronic scene with their hit single “Beam.” The electronic-pop hit made its way across the globe as a prominent track in the festival circuit. Since then, Mako have released a number of singles on Ultra Records that earned them an established presence. Originally a duo, Mako’s roster now consists solely of Alex Seaver, Mako’s frontman and primary creative force. I’m happy to introduce “Breathe,” the first single from Mako since Seaver took over the moniker as a solo artist.

Immediately setting itself apart from Mako’s previous releases, “Breathe” is a stunning concoction of indie-electronica, EDM, and relaxing break-beat. Kicking things off with a soft and rounded guitar melody, “Breathe” introduces itself with stunning melodies and soul-soothing grooves. As soon as Seaver’s vocals come in, an enveloping calm takes hold of the listener. It’s easy to close your eyes and sway to the sultry melody weaved by Seager’s vocals. When the rhythmic beat kicks in, it instantly provokes an emotional response.

A crooning, romantic, and affective composition, ”Breathe” takes command of its audience and conjures a deep resonance within its listener. From the opening line, we’re thrust into imagining a young man’s attempts to find love: “Another night up at the bar late / Skinny dresses and heartbreaks / There's nothing magic going on / Then along came you.” A typical night out turns into a heartfelt longing, romance, and the potential heartbreak that follows. It’s an ode to falling in love when you least expect it, and not knowing how things will end up.

The track is intense, melodic, and vocally flawless. Driven strongly by raw emotion, Seaver steers the orchestration seamlessly in a way that sucks you in and makes you a part of the minimalist production.

“Breathe” is constant, impactful, and dreamy in a way that every electronic-driven single should be. The sheer emotional force behind Seaver’s melodic vocals make the track unforgettable, while the restraint and precision displayed in the production make it a lasting hit. It’s clear that Mako is bound to continue its career in excellence. The new chapter begins entirely with “Breathe.”
