The biggest question preceding this State of the Union address was not the content of the remarks, but rather whether or not President Obama would succeed in bringing his capacity to lead and to inspire to his appearance.
He brought it. The man who, as candidate Obama, gained our trust and our votes showed up tonight.
The content of President Obama's remarks will be examined from all directions and analyzed in ways both meaningful and misleading. Nonetheless, it was clear from the reactions of those in the Capitol that there was no doubt about who was the leader and who were the listeners. The Democrats were generous with their standing ovations, and the Republicans were rapt in their attention.
Now, if President Obama can bring this same capacity to his efforts to govern in the months ahead, that will be change we can believe in. Again.
