President Obama's Classy Tweet To Michelle Is The Perfect Send-Off

Happy birthday, Michelle!

The way we interact with our president on social media is about to change forever.

Here’s an example: While our president-elect spent his waking hours calling people liars on Twitter, our current president was thanking Michelle Obama for a job well done on her birthday.

We’ve got three more days of class on Twitter, people.

Barack’s tweet shows the first couple riding in a golf cart on the night of the inaugural ball in 2009. Remember 2009?

“To the girl from the South Side who took on a role she didn’t ask for and made it her own: Happy Birthday, Michelle. I love you,” the tweet reads.

If anyone deserves a send-off like that, it’s Michelle. She’s resilient, she has great dance moves and she spent the last eight years encouraging young women to be strong. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness.

The couple will miss the White House, but Michelle told Vogue that she’ll continue to be “engaged in some way in public service and public life.”

We hope so. Her education initiatives ― Reach Higher and Let Girls Learn ― mark some of her accomplishments as first lady, but we’ll consider it a public service even if she only does a bunch more “Carpool Karaoke.

Thanks, Obamas.
