It appears that free agent slugger Prince Fielder has finally found a new team.. and he's moving to the American League.
According to Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com, Fielder has agreed to a nine-year deal with the Detroit Tigers. The deal is reportedly worth $214 million.
Fielder was the second most coveted free agent this offeseason. Former Cardinals star Albert Pujols also jumped to the American League, signing a 10-year deal with the Los Angeles Angels. The Texas Rangers had long been rumored as suitors for Fielder but Bob Nightengale of USA Today reported earlier on Tuesday that they believed they were "out out of the bidding" for the 27-year-old slugger.
The left-handed masher spent the first seven seasons of his career playing first base for the Milwaukee Brewers. A three-time All-Star, Fielder has already tallied 230 career home runs with a career .282 batting average. When the Brewers were eliminated from the 2011 NLCS, fans and teammates made certain to say their goodbyes just in case he wasn't in a Brewers uniform in Spring Training. Before the regular season had even ended, Fielder admitted that 2011 was "probably" his last season in Milwaukee as free agency loomed, adding "it is what it is."
