Princess Charlene Proves Velvet Dresses Are Totally Acceptable For Holiday Season (PHOTOS)

PHOTOS: Princess Charlene Teaches Us A Valuable Holiday Dressing Lesson

It's easy to relegate velvet dresses to regrettable holiday wardrobes of seasons past. Fortunately, we have princesses to show us how a tricky, sometimes overly festive, fabric can actually make for a pretty stylish look.

Last night, as Princess Charlene of Monaco attended the "MONAA" Charity Gala, the blonde stunner turned heads in a floor-length blue velvet gown. The simple line of the dress coupled with the jewel-toned hue made for an impactful ensemble, especially on Char's 5 foot 10 inch frame. Her pop of wine-colored lipstick and diamond chandelier earrings were the perfect accents for the heavy fabric.

Call us crazy, but with holiday season in full swing, we think it's about time we dust off our velvet dresses for all of the social occasions that winter brings. Just remember: Not all velvet dresses are created equal.
