When given a choice of accessories, we will always choose sunglasses. No matter how lame your outfit, a pair of shades always adds a dose of cool.
Which is why we get totally excited when we see otherwise conservative dressers (royals, politicos) don a pair of shades, taking their look from stodgy to sexy. And of all the princes, princesses, presidents and first ladies who step out into the limelight, Princess Letizia of Spain wears her sunnies best.
We were reminded of this today, when the royal and her hubby Prince Felipe attended a changing of the guards ceremony. The event was held at the Palacio in Madrid, which features an expansive open-air courtyard made of pale stone that reflects the sun quite brightly.
Last time we were there it was overcast, but the sun was shining brightly today as the prince and the princess took in the Palacio scene. Letizia paired her Ray Ban aviators with a sleek camel coat, wide-legged trousers and brown pumps.
In other words, a pretty classic Letizia look -- solids, neutral tones -- made way cooler by her awesome shades.
