'Private Practice': Tim Daly Leaving Shonda Rhimes Series Before Season 6

'Private Practice' Cast Shake Up

On "Private Practice," at least one doctor is out. Series star Tim Daly, who played Dr. Pete Wilder on the show, tweeted that he was leaving "Private Practice" and would not be part of Season 6.

"Private Practice" has seen a few casting changes since its premiere in 2007, but Daly has been with the series from the start.

According to the actor, the decision came from creator Shonda Rhimes by way of his agent.

The medical drama, which is a spin-off of "Grey's Anatomy" and stars Kate Walsh as Addison Montgomery, was recently renewed for Season 6. Walsh responded to Daly's departure on Twitter.

Daly's character, Dr. Pete Wilder, was last seen being sent to jail for mercy killing a patient. He was later released on bail.

No word on if Daly will return to wrap up any storylines.

"Private Practice" returns with new episodes this fall on Tuesdays, 10 p.m. ET on ABC.
