'Project Accessory': The 'Project Runway' Spin-Off Crowns Its First Winner (VIDEO)

'Project Accessory' Crowns First Winner

After its first season, "Project Accessory" (Thu., 10 p.m. EST on Lifetime) has found its winner. The "Project Runway" spin-off focused on clothing accessories, like handbags, shoes and jewelry. From a pool of twelve contestants, the tasks whittled it down to the final two, and they brought two completely different approaches to their design work.

Host and judge Molly Sims described 26-year old Nina Cortes' accessories as "the most sellable." She felt they were beautiful and expressed Cortes' point of view as a designer perfectly. On the opposite end of the spectrum, 40-year old Brian Burkhardt took big creative risks with some of his design choices.

"Some of your accessories were hits," Sims told him. "Others were misses. But like all the work we've seen from you so far, there was a surprise factor." So what won out? Consistency or surprise?

Sims announced Burkhardt the first ever winner of "Project Accessory," for which he felt both respected and honored. In his confessional, he also admitted that while he was surprised to win, he felt he deserved to win.
