How Much Do Americans Spend On Prom?

It's no secret that prom is crazy expensive. Back when we went to prom, tickets for the event alone topped $90 -- that's not including what we spent on our French manis, BCBG dresses and rhinestone shoes.

So how much are Americans shelling out for the big night this year? Coupon Cabin, which knows a thing or two about money (and how much people spend), broke down the statistics for Prom 2012. According to a 2012 Visa survey, the prom industry is valued at $4 billion, with the average family spending $1,078. And they're not even buying nice dresses!

See the infographic below for all the dirty details -- including how much Southerners spend versus those dwelling in the Northeast plus some tips for keeping things budget-friendly.
