'Prometheus' Rating: Ridley Scott Blasts MPAA, Says They Should Get Their 'House In Order'

Ridley Scott Blasts MPAA Over 'Prometheus' Rating

The "Prometheus" rating process doesn't appear to be going as smoothly as "The Dark Knight Rises."

Speaking at public screening of "Prometheus" footage in London on Tuesday, director Ridley Scott decried the arbitrary nature of the Motion Picture Association of America.

"[F]ilms this year that have got PG-13 ratings -- it’s absolutely f--king ludicrous," Scott was quoted as saying by Indiewire's blog Thompson on Hollywood, before adding that the MPAA should get its "house in order.”

In an interview with Empire last month, Scott conceded that the rating makes a huge difference.

"The question is, do you go for the PG-13, or do you go for what it should be, which is R?" he said. "Financially it makes quite a difference, or the risk makes quite a difference, and yet you also have to apply the question -- if you soften it, will you financially suffer? As opposed to just going for the throat and gambling. Essentially, it's kinda R."

In London on Tuesday, Scott reiterated that thought, saying "Prometheus" needs a rating which "allows it to make as much money as possible."

Scott's the second high-profile filmmaker to bash the MPAA in recent weeks; producer Harvey Weinstein famously took on the organization over an R-rating given to the documentary "Bully." Some cuts were made to the film to secure a PG-13 rating, but not before Weinstein sent "Bully" into theaters as unrated.

Unlike Scott and "Prometheus," Christopher Nolan's "The Dark Knight Rises" coasted through its rating process. The highly-anticipated Batman finale was awarded a PG-13 rating this week.
