Same-sex marriage is once again dominating national headlines as the U.S. Supreme Court hears arguments on Prop 8 and the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) -- but a pair of prominent right-wing pundits aren't having any of it.
As Right Wing Watch is reporting, pastor Jim Garlow told the Christian Broadcasting Network that lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) couples don't actually have "much interest in marriage."
"There isn’t that much interest in commitment and monogamy," Garlow, who was reportedly instrumental in organizing conservative religious groups to support California's voter-approved ban on same-sex marriage, declared. "It isn’t there ... It’s attempting to force us to affirm a lifestyle."
No stranger to bold anti-gay declarations, televangelist Pat Robertson felt similarly. Calling marriage "the foundation of our society since the founding of our great Republic," Robertson added, "Two men do not have children, two women do not have children."
In recent months, Robertson has been quick to sound off on the Boy Scouts of America's decision to reconsider its controversial ban on gay participants. Speaking on "The 700 Club," Robertson asked, "The question is, are there predators as Boy Scouts, pedophiles that would come in as scoutmasters? And if they are, then of course parents wouldn't want their sons being involved in the Boy Scouts, or their daughters in the Girl Scouts."
