As the nation waits with bated breath for the Supreme Court to weigh in on gay marriage, some Hollywood heavyweights are prepping a Prop 8 movie.

The film would be based on Oscar-winning screenwriter Dustin Lance Black's "8," a play that used transcripts from the 2010 trial that struck down the law as the source material for an all-star retelling of the case. Proposition 8 is a 2008 California ballot proposition that resulted in an amendment to the state's constitution that declared the state only "recognizes" marriage between a man and a woman. A litany of tinseltown's biggest names performed in the play's inaugural showing, including George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Jane Lynch, Martin Sheen, Kevin Bacon, Jamie Lee Curtis, Christine Lahti, George Takei, John C. Reilly, Chris Colfer, Matthew Morrison and Jesse Tyler Ferguson.

Director Rob Reiner has said that he aims to turn the play into a movie. "We are working on it," he told Buzzfeed. "Lance is working on a screenplay, and hopefully, when he finishes it, I'm going to direct it."

The movie's team is waiting to see what happens on the SCOTUS front before moving forward. Reiner is the co-founder of the American Foundation Equal Rights, which is among the many organizations backing the bid to strike down Prop 8 once and for all.
