Prop 8 Ruling Is Just Days Away (VIDEO)

We don't know exactly what day we're getting a ruling on Prop 8, but we do know that it's going to happen this month -- and maybe even this week.

The Supreme Court has identified just three remaining days when they might issue their ruling. The deadline for the end of their term is at the end of June, so one way or another, we'll have that decision in just a matter of days.

And then what? Well, there are a variety of ways the court could rule. The good news is that nearly all of them involve a victory. The court could issue a broad national ruling that marriage discrimination is unconstitutional. They could rule that states with civil unions must provide marriage. They could issue a ruling that only applies to one state. All of these scenarios mean the resumption of marriage in California.

Meanwhile, progress continues in other states: Minnesota began issuing marriage licenses last week, and national polling shows ongoing growth in public support.

Organizers in Ohio are bringing marriage to the ballot -- or are they? After an announcement last week that marriage would get a vote in 2014, some organizations backed away from that claim and indicated that 2016 might be more likely. The polling in Ohio is still very close, so this is a situation where patience could pay off.
