Puppy Mills: Animal Rights Activist Blasts 'Horrendous' Conditions

Busting Puppy Mills: "It's A Very Dirty Little Secret"

Asking about that doggie in the window is going out of fashion. The public has transitioned from buying dogs in person to buying them online. The puppy on your browser may seem healthy, but that couldn't be further from the truth. Noah Turner, animal rights activist and Ohio SPCA Response Team Leader, has seen the worst of the worst, despite puppy mill owner attempts to avoid inspection.

"Sometimes even the neighbors don't know what's going on," he said. "They'll act like these are boarding kennels."

Turner described a recent bust to HuffPost Live host Abby Huntsman.

"The conditions which these animals are living in are often horrendous," he said. "It's just been something that's accepted, and it's hidden, it's a very dirty little secret."

The discussion also included Cori Menkin of the ASPCA, Melanie Kahn of The Humane Society, and Tracy Coppola, Campaigns Officer for IFAW.
