While the British royals were having a subdued family affair celebrating Christmas this week (have you seen the Duchess' amazing hat yet?), their Spanish counterparts were also out and about to ring in the first Parliament session with the new Conservative government at the Spanish parliament building.

King Juan Carlos' son-in-law Inaki Urdangarin is currently embroiled in a scandal over the financial details involved in a charitable organization, and notably, the king's two daughters, Christina and Elena, did not attend the ceremony, reports Expatica. AFP says that El Pais interpreted the daughters' absence as an attempt to distance themselves from the scandal.

But controversy aside, the King, alongside Queen Sofia (both are 23), donned traditional medals to mark the opening of Parliament. The Queen looked radiant in a bright purple suit, wearing the color of royalty well.

Also in attendance were Prince Felipe and Princess Letizia, who looked stunning in all green garb and a pair of stylish T-strap heels.
