This Incredible Project Is Helping Kids Understand What It Means To Be Queer

"It's all about taking a seemingly complex idea, reframing it for kids and making it fun!"

A powerful and much needed new web series is breaking down queer themes and terminology for children in a way that is accessible, understandable and ― most importantly ― fun.

We previously brought you the news about Queer Kid Stuff earlier this year. Since then, creator Lindsey Amer received a grant to flesh the project out into a ten-episode web series, with each video tackling a different topic.

The first episode asks, “What does gay mean?” and the second episode, recently released and available for viewing above, questions “what is gender?”

“I truly believe that if we can raise children to be inclusive and accepting of all kinds of difference and queerness, that we can start to see real change in the world,” Amer told The Huffington Post. “On a personal level, I always wonder how my life would have been different if I had been exposed to this kind of content as a kid, or even really known what it meant to be gay or queer. If I had seen a Disney movie with two princesses finding their happily ever after, I think it would have saved me a lot of pain and confusion when I was younger and starting to grow into my identity.”

We’re really excited about this project and can’t wait to see what the rest of the season brings.
