What Happens When Modern Queer Men See 'Queer As Folk' For The First Time

"I will say I've only seen white people so far."

Showtime's " Queer As Folk " was a very progressive show for its time, providing depictions of mainstream gay culture to the public in a way that had never been done before. When viewed through today's cultural lens, however, the series can seem a bit problematic and over the top -- and very white.

So what do today's queer men, who may not have seen the series during its five-season run, have to say when watching it for the first time? The results are a mixed bag.

The show definitely played into mainstream gay stereotypes, as the participants point out, but it also was revolutionary in many ways -- particularly in it's authentic portrayal of navigating the world as an HIV-positive man.
