Quentin Tarantino got a little emotional during his last visit to "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" on Tuesday. The Oscar winner made sure to point out how important Leno and "The Tonight Show" had been to his career.
Back in 1992, during Leno's first year as host, Tarantino appeared on the show as a "civilian guest" to promote "Reservoir Dogs." (Leno had read about Tarantino, who then worked at a video store, writing and directing the indie film.) He kept a coffee mug from that appearance and every subsequent spot on the show, marking his way from being the "fourth guest" to the lead guest. As a farewell present, Leno gave him one last mug, marked "Best Director."
Tarantino had a gift for Leno as well: scoop about the acclaimed director's next movie. "I haven't told anybody this publicly, but I will say the genre: It's a Western. It's another Western," Tarantino said. "It's not a 'Django' sequel. I had so much fun doing 'Django,' and I love Westerns so much that after I taught myself how to make one, I was like, 'Let me make another one, now that I know what I'm doing.'"
