Rachel Maddow Bucks Conventional Wisdom, Says Bernie Sanders Is No Fringe Candidate

MSNBC's Rachel Maddow is such a Bernie Sanders fangirl, she can barely contain herself.

On her show Tuesday night, Maddow dismissed the conventional wisdom that the independent U.S. senator who is running as a Democrat is a fringe candidate, pointing out that he has raised more than $4 million since announcing his 2016 run -- more than a number of the top Republican presidential contenders.

“The Beltway media has been treating Bernie Sanders like a gadfly, somebody who exists only to pester Hillary Clinton to move to the left,” Maddow said. “But Bernie Sanders … has been bucking that both with his arguments now and with his description of his campaign in the past.”

Sanders spoke at a rally in his home state of Vermont on Tuesday. “Today we stand here and say loudly and clearly, enough is enough: This great nation and its government belong to all the people and not to a handful of billionaires,” Sanders said. “This kind of rigged economy is not what America is supposed to be about.”
