RaiseForWomen Charity Initiative Highlights Men's Roles In Empowering Women, Girls (VIDEO)

WATCH: The Crucial Role Men Play In Empowering Women, Girls

The HuffPost RaiseForWomen competition, which comes to a close on Thursday, has received notable support from one specific group -- the fellas.

Members of the initiative, which challenges women-centric nonprofits to raise funds and awareness, discussed on HuffPost Live how men can be champions of women's issues.

Some of the finalists from the nonprofit pool, which has raised almost $1 million so far, joined Arianna Huffington's Chief of Staff Dan Koh to discuss lighthearted efforts such as the Men Of HuffPost calendar, which supports RaiseForWomen, as well as more earnest issues such as shifting paradigms toward gender roles globally.

"Everyone can benefit -- will benefit -- from a more equitable world where women and girls are empowered and fully able to participate in their societies," Ann Warner, Senior Gender and Youth Specialist at The International Center for Research on Women, said on HuffPost Live.

Warner shared specific initiatives, such as working with coaches to teach young male athletes that violence against women is not acceptable.

The International Center for Research on Women is one of more than 80 organizations competing in the RaiseForWomen challenge. The Skoll Foundation, a HuffPost partner, has pledged prize money for the top three winners. Other partners include the Crowdrise platform and Half the Sky Movement. Donations close June 6 at 5 pm.
