Rally To Restore Sanity's Roots: Colbert's Fear Of Bears, 'Godless Killing Machines' (VIDEO)

For the next couple of weeks, we'll be celebrating the upcoming Rally To Restore Sanity/March To Keep Fear Alive by highlighting the ways in which "The Daily Show" and "The Colbert Report" have long advocated reasonableness. You're invited to take part! Remember a "moment of sanity" that was dear to you? Send me an email and tell me about it!

---------------

You know, for the last few days, we've talked a lot about the way Jon Stewart has helped to restore sanity. But we've been terribly neglectful of the way that Stephen Colbert has helped to stoke fear. Sweet, irrational fear. The type of fear that radiates through your guts and leaves a coppery taste in your mouth that no mouthwash shall ever make clean. For years, Colbert has made no bones about the freaky stuff in the world that we need to jumping out of our own skin over on an hourly basis, until we join one another in the streets, one insane horde of adrenaline-choked wrecks, shambling indiscriminately toward an uncertain future.

And if there's one thing that Colbert has warned us about, time and again, it's the bears -- be they polar, grizzly, teddy or Chicago. And I have to admit, if I ended up on a plane with a bear riding in coach next to me, I'd be as skittish as Juan Williams. So, let's celebrate all of Stephen's best dire warnings with this Bear Fear Mastercut, from Ben Craw.

Look at that: "BEAR FEAR." Why, this ursine menace has even made a mockery of our English language phonemes!
