If you happened to be wondering whether or not President Barack Obama would get a primary challenge in 2012, wonder no more! For today it has been announced that Operation Rescue founder and anti-abortion performance artist Randall Terry will run for president, as a Democrat, to challenge Obama. As Kevin Derby reports for the Sunshine State News:
"My constituency is the millions of pro-life advocates who want to make child-killing illegal from conception until birth," said Terry on Tuesday. "My base is those who know that we must show Americans the victims of abortion, in order to restore the full protection of law to unborn babies."
Terry, who has backed graphic ads of abortion procedures before, hopes to run ads during the 2012 NFL playoff games, including the Super Bowl.
Of late, Terry has helped to advance the discourse by hanging Lindsey Graham in effigy, and crooning "Only You (And You Alone)" by the Platters in protest of Elena Kagan. Jack Stuef at Wonkette has much more to suggest that Terry might not prevail in a primary contest with Obama, let alone draw FireDogLake's coveted endorsement. Terry himself is not bullish on his prospects, saying, "Will I defeat Mr. Obama? I'm not delusional."
My own up close and personal experience with Terry took place in August of 2009, when I went with the Washington Times' Liz Glover to my high school's "Health Care Reform Town Hall," because I couldn't take her to my high school prom. Wonkette's Jim Newell chaperoned us so that we could not "grind" to the "sexy beats" that Rep. Jim Moran was laying down about the terrible things people were saying about health care reform on the internet. There, Randall Terry revealed himself to be the Prom King Of Yelling At Howard Dean About Abortion. All in all, it was the most fun I ever had at my high school.
Terry will apparently make his formal announcement Thursday, in front of the Holocaust Museum in Washington, D.C., in the hopes that "blood libel" is still trending on Google.
