Pet Rat And Dog Are Best Pals Because BFFs Come In All Shapes And Sizes

Proof That BFFs Come In All Shapes And Sizes

Meet Osiris.

And meet Riff Ratt.

Osiris is a 3-year-old Dutch shepherd mix and Riff Ratt is a 3-month-old fancy rat. They both live in Chicago and apparently really couldn't be better friends.

Photos of the unlikely duo playing ball together, giving each other licks and exchanging belly rubs have been posted on Instagram over the past few months. Osiris is even cool enough to let Riff explore the inner workings of his snout. Don't be alarmed -- apparently, this is "super typical."

Fancy rats are actually quite good pets, especially in small apartments that may be too cramped for a dog, Mashable notes. They're "curious, intelligent and always up for some fun," the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals says, and can quickly learn to fall in love with their human companions. But, if you're considering adding one to your family, keep in mind that they live for up to three years and the ASPCA recommends giving them a companion.
