Danny Green may have made a historic number of three-point shots through six games of the 2013 NBA Finals but Ray Allen may end up with the series' most memorable make from distance. With the Miami Heat trailing by three points as time ticked away in the fourth quarter of Game 6, the 37-year-old sharpshooter drained a game-tying, three-point shot from the corner to force overtime.
"Until the clock runs out we still have an opportunity here to win this game," Allen told Doris Burke of ESPN on the court after Heat forced a Game 7 with a 103-100 overtime win. "We've been a resilient bunch all year. LeBron is attacking. We don't have great offense going but we know that we still have a shot. So I just kept my head in it. That ball bounces in weird ways at the end of games and we got a great bounce."
Allen's made three-point shot fell through the net with just 5.2 seconds remaining in regulation and came after Chris Bosh rebounded a miss by LeBron James. On the previous Heat possession, James had drained a three from the wing, cutting the Spurs' lead to 94-92. After Spurs foward Kawhi Leonard made of 1 of 2 free throws at the other end, Allen pulled the Heat level with his corner triple.
Free basketball would give way to Game 7.
