Ray Rice's Newtown Tweets Spur Anger Among Fantasy Football Owners

'You Aren't Paid Millions To Mourn'

Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice was among the many athletes to express his grief and share his condolences via Twitter after the tragic shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn. on Friday. Like the rest of the nation, his thoughts were still with those affected by the senseless horror a few days later. After the Ravens' 34-17 loss to the Broncos, Rice again shared his thoughts about Newtown.

Apparently, Rice's postgame tweet did not go over well with everyone who follows him. A few individuals on Twitter took issue with the sentiment, criticizing Rice for his underwhelming 38-yard rushing performance.

Rice responded strongly to his critics, a group that seems to have included people overly concerned with their fantasy football teams, and asked anyone who disagreed to unfollow him on Twitter.

The backlash against Rice was thankfully limited to the few, with the majority of fans expressing their support for the Ravens running back and the victims of the shooting.

Unfortunately, this was not the only time that sports fans have shown a disheartening lack of perspective in the days since the Sandy Hook shooting. On Sunday night, several viewers sent racist tweets to voice their frustrations over the decision by NBC to move an NFL game briefly to a cable channel in order to broadcast President Obama's remarks during a vigil in Newtown.
