Change is hard. Really hard. Our patterns are so deeply ingrained into our psyche that any deviation from our norm causes our mind to throw up red flags like crazy. We can almost hear the internal alarms blaring loudly like an evacuation siren... you know, the kind of alarm that continues to increase its volume until you finally do something about it and stop it before you go bonkers.

At first you can deal with the noise. It becomes almost a motivation to keep pushing through any challenges and onward toward success. After awhile though, your focus is diverted from your goal and you start thinking about the irritation more. You start discovering all the reasons why you should stop what you're doing -- why you should stop making those changes -- because now you're living in chaos and it's not fun anymore. Then all too soon it becomes more than you are willing to bear and you willingly submit to the power of resistance.

Resistance is a powerful opponent. Yet this adversary has the ability to be overcome. But you must find the strength and determination within to defeat this foe to become its conqueror.

If you feel like you've been beating your head against the wall for far too long, then it's time to take an unbiased look at what's going on. Often it's as simple as you haven't gotten clear with WHY it's so important to make the changes you are attempting to implement. You haven't understood your underlying motivation for why this change is so necessary and how you'll benefit from it. Your resistance will offer you plenty of reasons for why things should remain the same, so you must be prepared to counter those internal arguments with the sweetness of victory once your goals have been achieved.

If you don't like the direction you are going, change it. Change it now! However, in order to be successful you must also be specific about what you want. Wishful thinking will not bring you anything more than a bruised ego and a broken dream. Your mind needs something to latch onto, and in times of change, it holds tight to what is known. Even if that something is painful. The alternative is wrapped up with too many unknowns.

So to help yourself, identify the specific results you are looking for. If you are not clear, you may not recognize you've achieved success when you do get there. More likely, you might end up somewhere completely different than what you had planned because you were ambiguous.

Once you have clarity, it is critical to keep yourself clear and focused on your goals and direction. Then you'll need to identify a strategy to achieve your goals. But you can't be in action and indecision at the same time. If you wait too long deciding to change or how to move forward, the world and its opportunities will change around you. Your decisions must be in alignment with your long-term goals.

There are many paths to take to get to where you are going. Some are easier, and others are more difficult. But sometimes it is the smallest step in the right direction that ends up being the biggest step in your life. Tip toe if you must but take the step.

Many times it helps to work with someone who's walked the path before you and can show you how to navigate it easier. After all, why stumble and struggle through when there is a shortcut? But here's the key... you must take action. Otherwise, you just simply know you want something but aren't moving yourself forward, and that sure is a quick way to end up in regret.

You deserve better than that. So when you want something more for yourself, be prepared with the ammunition ready to do battle. Your alarms will sound, but soon you will move out of range and they will no longer distract you. Your deep purpose will propel you forward. Hold on to that and discover where it will lead you.
