Gretchen's boyfriend Slade joined her at the improv with a stand-up comedy routine on "The Real Housewives of Orange County" (Tue., 9 p.m. EST on Bravo). But his stand-up set didn't go nearly as well as Slade hoped. In fact, it may have caused him more trouble than anything else.
When he talked in advance with Gretchen about some of his ideas -- including using a slideshow of unflattering photos of some of the other castmembers from various tabloids -- she understandably balked at the idea. Certainly it wouldn't go over well with Tamra and Vicki, who were particular intended targets of his.
But when it came to show time, Slade went ahead with his plan. He compared Tamra to the Michelin Man, and threw up a potentially more insulting comparison for Vicki, claiming it was an exclusive first look at her post-surgery appearance. Bravo blurred it pretty quickly, but it was obviously Miss Piggy, confirmed when Slade mentioned her by name.
"Hey, don't get mad at me because she looks like Miss Piggy, it's not my fault," he laughed. But Slade was the only one laughing, as his entire routine was clearly bombing with the audience. But as much as they just weren't being entertained by his "Housewives" insults, Gretchen was actively looking on with anger.
She laid into him on the way home, but Slade defended his decision and didn't think he did anything wrong. Bombing in front of an audience with material that was more mean than funny could be considered wrong. It certainly was more wrong than entertaining.
