Cleary Wolters, The Real-Life Alex Vause, On What 'OITNB' Changed About Her Relationship With Piper

What 'OITNB' Gets Wrong About Lesbian Sex In Prison

"Orange Is The New Black" fans know bespectacled drug smuggler Alex Vause, played by Laura Prepon, as Piper Chapman's incarcerated on-again-off-again lover. Now, the real-life inspiration for the character is setting the record straight.

Cleary Wolters wears the exact same glasses as Alex, and they share a lot of history, including a stint in prison and a relationship with a blonde named Piper. In Wolters' case, that Piper was Piper Kerman, the author whose memoir is the basis for Netflix's hit dramedy. Wolters has a new book of her own, Out Of Orange, in which she tells her side of the story.

Wolters spoke with HuffPost Live's Caroline Modarressy-Tehrani on Tuesday to describe how her actual relationship with Piper compares to the one we see on screen. She also explained the biggest inaccuracy about the copious behind-bars sex that happens among women on the show.
