Realizing Your Full Potential, Part 2: Nothing Ventured, Nothing Gained!

Last week, we talked about Milton reaching his stars and the first steps we need to take to help our seeds of destiny to grow.

So with our seeds planted, watered and nurtured, what else do we need for our potential to thrive and blossom?

The answer is simple -- self-belief and action!

Each time Muhammad Ali got into the ring, do you think he said to himself, "I can't win?"

After all, the world is full of limitless possibilities. The only limits are the ones we create for ourselves in our own minds.

For us to truly soar, we must dare to dream -- set our minds free, spread our "Superman" capes, believe we can fly, take the leap and fly!

Another key to unlocking the door to our destiny is this -- don't listen to the naysayers. They're just a wet blanket to the fire of passion and enthusiasm burning within us. Anyway, who are they to tell us that we "can't?"

Just because someone says something can't be done doesn't make it true. Just stay true to yourself -- to your desire, your dream and your vision. Draw strength from the fact that some of the greatest discoveries in this world were once believed to be impossible. And when batting off the negativity of others, remind yourself of this wonderful quote: "Successful people are the ones who can lay a firm foundation with the bricks others have thrown at them" (David Brinkley, American Journalist). So stand firm, catch those bricks and start building!

We've also got to be brave -- to step forward in life with faith and courage.

So many people won't take steps forward because they're scared of the unknown and, realistically, they're the ones missing out on the joy of discovery.

In the end, how will we ever know for sure that we will fail if we don't try? If we don't try, we will never know -- then we are the ones who are missing out, aren't we?

Can you imagine our world today had James Cook and Christopher Columbus been too frightened to board their ships and sail to the world's end? So cast off the ropes of fear and set sail!

Nothing ventured, nothing gained!

But, when all is said and done, none of this means anything unless we stay committed to the journey we have charted for ourselves. After all, the hardest part of starting anything is starting. So once we've taken that first step, why let all that hard work go to waste?

To give our potential a fighting chance, just keep going and don't give up. Because if we give up, we will never get there. Take charge. Stay focused. Be positive. Make the decisions that need to be made to get things done. Don't procrastinate, because every moment we have in this life is our greatest wealth. Learn the lessons that need to be learned. Adapt when you need to adapt. Improve where you can improve. Keep your eyes and heart wide open to the opportunities all around you and seize them every chance you get. Every day make time to nurture and balance everything that makes us human (mentally, emotionally, physically, spiritually, socially) -- and, above all, be true to yourself and live!

And no matter what happens in life, always remember we each have a champion inside us waiting to break free and win -- it all comes down to us.

We are the flame of our desire, the dreamers of our dreams, the explorers of our world, and the artists, composers, musicians and conductors of this wonderful symphony we each call our life. So don't just sit there and gaze at the stars -- like Milton, become them and shine your light on the world!
