Much of the apologia from the news media for the skimpy coverage of the Downing Street memo is that it's old news, since we've been hearing from Paul O'Neill, Richard Clarke et al. that the White House had been planning to invade for years

Not that they had much in the way of an actual plan. We've also heard plenty about the neocons' unrealistic pre-invasion plans and complete lack of post-invasion plans, so it's probably no surprise that yet more evidence detailed in a new book from the Washington Institute for Near East Policy has not made a big stir. Fortunately, the folks at Knight Ridder, more perspicacious than their coastal buddies, have the story.
