Record Store Day 2013: Third Man Records Unveils Refurbished Voice-O-Graph Machine (VIDEO)

Happy Record Store Day!

Just in time for Record Store Day, Jack White's independent label, Third Man Records, has rolled out a vintage party trick for music lovers in the Nashville area.

Called the Voice-o-Graph, the refurbished 1947 machine is a "make your own record" booth that spits out six inch phonograph disks to all users. All you have to do is record a two minute audio clip inside what looks like a decked out phone booth, and voila! You have your very own musical postcard. In case you're wondering, the Voice-o-Graph is a musical relic that invited curious audiophiles in the 1960s and 1970s to "hear yourself as others hear you." Now the Third Man Records recording booth is the only public, operational machine in the world.

Fans can submit digitized versions of their "records" to the Third Man website, where the short clips will be streamed. Like other locations across the country that are celebrating Record Store Day, the Tennessee spot is also hosting a series of live performances by musicians like Karen Elson and Mark Watrous and selling a selection of limited edition vinyls.
