On Wednesday afternoon, a 95-year-old man was stung by bees at least six hundred times when walking near his Redondo Beach apartment, reports MSNBC.

The bees, believed to be Africanized honey bees, grew aggressive after a private exterminator's attempt to remove the hive, reports CBS Los Angeles. At this point they swarmed the victim who was then taken to a Torrance hospital for treatment, states the Associated Press.

"He literally got stung by thousands of bees," Sgt. Phil Keenan told the LA Times. "Most men would have died," Keenan added.

Sgt. Keenan later explained to Redondo Beach Patch that, "[The bees] went into his ears, the palms of his hands, his arms, his face, his neck—everything that was exposed."

The apartment building, located on the 1700 block of Ruxton Lane, has a history of infestation. This is the third time in five years that bees have overwhelmed the property, according to CBS. In previous extermination attempts, over one hundred pounds of honey have been found.

If a bee outbreak or bee hive is found near your home, please do not attempt to remove the hive yourself. Instead, contact the Los Angeles County West Vector & Vector-Borne Disease Control District at 310-915-7370 or an authorized pest control company. For any bee sting emergencies, call 911.
