Reese Witherspoon agreed to compete in an "American Ninja Warrior"-themed race as the first guest announcer on the new show "Best Time Ever with Neil Patrick Harris," which premiered Tuesday night.

In the competition, narrated by "ANW" announcer Matt Iseman, Witherspoon had to race Harris up a dangling contraption hanging 15 stories from the ground and then plunge down a zipline to finish the course.

Although the dialogue seemed scripted, Witherspoon repeatedly made jokes about not knowing she was agreeing to do this and that she just happened to be afraid of heights.

At one point while the contraption is rising, Harris jokes, "When does it stop?" although, as the host, he knows the answer. Witherspoon responds, "The good news is it's dark out; I can't see the ground."

When you watch the race, notice how Harris stops and waits for Witherspoon to catch up at every stage ...

Television critics did not rate Harris' premiere episode highly. The A.V. Club gave it a "D" rating, while USA Today published their review with the headline, "Frantic 'Best' had better get better."

Perhaps as you watched Harris and Witherspoon up on the 15-story contraption, you recalled the chorus from The Postal Service's 2003 hit that goes, "They will see us waving from such great heights / 'Come down now,' they'll say."
