Cops Make Arrests In Connection With Philip Seymour Hoffman's Death (UPDATE)

Police have made multiple arrests in connection with the investigation into the death of Philip Seymour Hoffman.

According to Lt. John Grimpel of the New York Police Department, officers executed a search warrant at an apartment building on the 300 block of Mott Street in lower Manhattan, recovered a "quantity of narcotics" and made four arrests.

The New York Times reports that police searched three apartments, arrested three men and one woman and found 350 bags of heroin.

The identities of the suspects have not been released.

The paper says a tip led police to the building. TMZ reports that the tip came from a heroin user who claims to have shared a dealer with the actor.

Hoffman, who won the Academy Award for Best Actor in 2005 for his portrayal of author Truman Capote, was found dead of an apparent heroin overdose in his New York City apartment on Sunday. He had a needle in his arm and dozens of small plastic packets were found in the apartment, some empty and some still containing drugs.

The New York Post reports that he spent $1,000 on drugs the night before he was found dead.

UPDATE: Feb. 5 -- The New York Times has confirmed the names of the four individuals arrested in connection to Philip Seymour Hoffman's death. Authorities took three men and a woman into custody, after they recovered more than 350 bags of heroin inside their apartments.

Max Rosenblum, 22, and Juliana Luchkiw, 22, who live together in Apt. 27 at 302 Mott Street, were each charged with drug possession and criminal use of drug paraphernalia. Robert Vineberg, 57, who lives in Apt. 38 -- where the majority of the bags of heroin were found -- was also charged with drug possession and criminal use of drug paraphernalia. And Thomas Cushman, 48, who was in Apt. 21, was charged with drug possession.

Although information stemming from the investigation into Hoffman’s death led the police to the building where Rosenblum, Luchkiw, Vineberg and Cushman were, none of them have been charged with the sale of drugs and a firm connection to Hoffman has not been established, officials explained.
