A Massachusetts-based super PAC organized by unions and seasoned Democratic political veterans launched its first two ads of the cycle against Sen. Scott Brown (R-Mass.). Rethink PAC's effort is dubbed Rethink Scott Brown and features two online ads targeting the freshman senator.
Another ad, "Wall Street," attacks Brown for his ties to the financial sector. Text states that Brown received $1.1 million in campaign contributions from Wall Street and that he "used his swing vote to water down Wall Street regulations."
Rethink PAC's $150,000 online ad buy will run for a few weeks. The ads will be featured on top news sites in Massachusetts, including the website of the Boston Globe.
"As voters learn what Scott Brown's record in Washington really looks like, it will become clear he's not on the side of Massachusetts families," said Liz Morningstar, senior strategist for the PAC, said in a statement. "Rethink seeks to show Massachusetts voters that what Scott Brown says he'll do for people in our state is very different from the way he's actually voting in Washington."
Massachusetts has seen a flurry of political advertising activity in the past few weeks. The League of Conservation Voters launched an ad campaign against Brown in the last week of October. On November 10, Crossroads GPS, a nonprofit linked to Karl Rove, launched the first attack ad against Democratic Senate candidate Elizabeth Warren. On Monday Warren filed her first ad in the cycle, the only positive ad airing at the moment.
The super PAC has not yet disclosed its funders. It does have prominent union backers, including the Massachusetts Teachers Association, the Service Employees International Union 1199, and the national Services Employees International Union and is said to be a multi-million dollar effort.
