Rhys Ifans has been tapped to play Sherlock Holmes's big brother Mycroft on CBS's "Elementary."

Ifans will make his debut in the "Elementary" Season 2 premiere on Thursday, Sept. 26 at 10 p.m. ET on CBS. In the Season 2 premiere, Sherlock (Jonny Lee Miller) is called to London to revisit an old case. Despite a falling out, Mycroft allows Sherlock and Joan Watson (Lucy Liu) to stay in his new home.

"I could not be more excited to have Rhys coming aboard," Robert Doherty, "Elementary" executive producer and creator, said in a statement. "I've always been a tremendous fan and feel very honored to have him in the fold. Equally excited are Jonny and Lucy, both of whom have worked with Rhys in feature films. I think this is going to be a lot of fun for all of us."

Ifans, who is known for his roles in "The Amazing Spider-Man," "The Five-Year Engagement" and "Notting Hill," will have a recurring role on "Elementary."
