Man Robbed Own Grandmother, Forced Her To Drink Alcohol: Police

An Alabama man is accused of robbing his 93-year-old grandmother by forcing her to drink rubbing alcohol as he allegedly carried out a home invasion.

Richard Alexander Coleman, 21, was arrested Thursday afternoon by authorities in Jefferson County.

"The people that see this story, it will shock their conscience," Chief Deputy Randy Christian, of the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, told Alabama's 13.

The victim told police that she encountered a masked man in her hallway around 6:30 a.m., Thursday. She said the man demanded money.

He then grabbed the woman by the neck, threw her to the floor and punched her in the face several times. He continued to demand money, and asked for her billfold. When she said she didn't know where her billfold was, the assailant poured rubbing alcohol down her throat and punched her in the face again.

He took $200 in cash from her bedroom and fled the home.

Authorities later identified Coleman as the suspect. He is charged with first-degree assault, first-degree robbery and first-degree burglary, WIAT reports.
