Richmond Times-Dispatch Ad On Front Page Leaves Staff 'Shocked' (PHOTO, POLL)

PHOTO: Does This Newspaper Ad Cross The Line?

The Richmond Times-Dispatch is raising eyebrows with its Sunday front page--or, rather, the full-page ad that took the place of the front page.

In a move reminiscent of the LA Times at its most controversial, the paper's page was given over entirely to Wells Fargo, which trumpeted its return to Virginia. A blue bar at the top of the page advises readers to "see inside for today's complete Times-Dispatch."

An anonymous tipster told Romenesko that the Times-Dispatch staff was "shocked and angry" about the ad, but publisher Thomas Silvestri sent an email saying that there had been no complaints about the page.
