Texas Gov. Rick Perry (R) recently informed the world that he is, in fact, more Jewish than people think he is.

It might come as a surprise to Perry, then, that the vast majority of Americans have given no thought whatsoever to how Jewish he is.

We have proof. A new HuffPost/YouGov poll shows that 60 percent of Americans are "not sure" how Jewish Rick Perry is.

The 39 percent of Americans who were willing to hazard a guess included 22 percent who said that he is "not at all" Jewish and 7 percent who said he is "not very" Jewish. Seven percent generously said they think Perry, who ate a reuben sandwich at a deli and says he has "read the part of the Bible that said the Jews are God’s chosen people," is "somewhat" Jewish. Another 3 percent are maybe thinking of another Rick Perry, as they said he's "very" Jewish.

For once, opinions didn't appear to be split along partisan lines -- Republicans and Democrats are largely united in bewilderment about Perry's level of Judaism.

The HuffPost/YouGov poll was conducted June 17-19 among 1,000 U.S. adults using a sample selected from YouGov's opt-in online panel to match the demographics and other characteristics of the adult U.S. population. Factors considered include age, race, gender, education, employment, income, marital status, number of children, voter registration, time and location of Internet access, interest in politics, religion and church attendance.

The Huffington Post has teamed up with YouGov to conduct daily opinion polls. You can learn more about this project and take part in YouGov's nationally representative opinion polling. Data from all HuffPost/YouGov polls can be found here.
