Whether it’s belting out Grammy-winning singles or wowing audiences as Che on Broadway’s “Evita,” it seems Ricky Martin can do it all.
Yet, the Puerto Rican superstar seemed willing to push himself even further when he revealed how he’d like to make his return to Broadway. While promoting his new children’s series “Santiago the Dreamer” on LIVE with Kelly and Michael on Tuesday, the 41-year-old star spoke about his time on “Evita” and when he’s likely to return to the stage.
“I love being on Broadway, I don’t know, let’s see what happens. I would like to do a one man show, does that make sense?” Ricky told hosts Kelly Ripa and Michael Strahan. “But we’re not there yet, before that we gotta go back on the road, and I want to release my album.”
Ricky has been working on his next album for some time now and over the summer he gave fans a peek at what to expect with his hit single “Come With Me.” The boricua singer, however, is currently focused on the release of his first children’s book “Santiago the Dreamer in Land Among the Stars” that is set to be published in English and Spanish on Nov. 14.
“The first book is about my beginning,” Martin said on the show “I did some auditions, and I was rejected, I heard it three times Next, Next, Next. I was not accepted in Menudo, the music band that I was a part of, and it was really frustrating.”
The five-part series will follow the young Santiago who must overcome the disappointment of not getting the lead role in his school play to achieve his dreams, with the help of his family of course.
“[Santiago] has a father who supports him, and I believe that’s very important,” Martin added. “This is a book that will benefit not only children, but also parents and whoever reading this book to their kids will receive an impact. It’s very important to have a lot of communication with your kids. ”
