Ricky Williams: Heisman Voters Who Left Jameis Winston Off Their Ballots Aren't 'Intelligent Or Smart' (VIDEO)

For Ricky Williams, Jameis Winston was a no-brainer choice to win the 79th Heisman Trophy. Williams is so certain that Winston deserved the honor that he has some doubts about the brains of those who didn't see it that way.

"When you get a Heisman vote it doesn't mean you're intelligent or smart or anything like that," Williams said with a smile on Monday when asked by HuffPost Live host Josh Zepps about the 115 voters who left Winston off their ballots.

As the winner of the 1997 Heisman Trophy, Williams had one of the 928 ballots sent out for the 2013 race. The overwhelming majority of voters agreed with Williams' choice of Winston as he won in a landslide. The margin between Winston and runner up AJ McCarron was 1,501 votes. This was the seventh-largest margin of victory in the history of the Heisman, according to HeismanPundit.com.

"It was a great selection. It was who I voted for," Williams told Zepps. "To me, the Heisman Trophy goes not to the person with the best stats necessarily but the person who stands out the most. And I think what he accomplished at Florida State, putting Florida State back on the map, doing it in his own unique style as a redshirt freshman was very impressive."

Despite being considered the overwhelming favorite to win the most prestigious individual honor in college football for weeks ahead of the trophy presentation, Winston's candidacy and win were not without controversy. Allegations of a December 2012 sexual assault surfaced late in the Seminoles' undefeated 2013 regular season. Just days before the Heisman finalists were named, state attorney Willie Meggs announced that Winston would not be facing charges following an investigation into the allegations against him.

While chatting with HuffPost Live, Williams also discussed the announcement that Mack Brown would be stepping down as head football coach at Texas. A two-time All-American running back at Texas, Williams initially was surprised by the news but agreed that it was time for a change with Longhorns.
