UPDATE: The North Bergen Police Department released a statement saying that Shirlene Quigley is “safe” on its various social media accounts Tuesday afternoon.
“After an extensive search by North Bergen Police Department Detectives in cooperation with the NYPD, we have located the SHIRLENE QUIGLEY,” the statement read. “She is safe and at a medical facility which location is undisclosed at this time. North Bergen Police Detectives have contacted her father and he is in route from Los Angeles to reunite with his daughter.
We are very pleased with this outcome. We want to thank the New York City Police Department for their tremendous amount of cooperation in this matter.”
Missy Elliott also tweeted that Quigley was “safe & being treated in a disclosed location.”
PREVIOUSLY: Shirlene Quigley, who has danced for Rihanna, Missy Elliott and Beyoncé, has been reported missing. The 32-year-old was last seen at the Port Authority Bus Terminal in New York City around 1 a.m. on Sunday.
Rihanna Instagrammed a call for help to find her former backup dancer and dance teacher on Monday, alongside a video of Quigley giving a sweet speech about kindness.
“This beautiful soul, and former dancer of mine is MISSING!!!” Rihanna wrote. “My heart aches thinking of how heavy this is on all who love her! If anyone has seen or has any information on @shirlenequigley’s whereabouts ..... PLEASE CONTACT the North Bergen Police Department 201 392 2100 !!!!”
Missy Elliott also posted photos of Quigley to her social media accounts, issuing a plea for help from anyone who might have additional information about the dancer. She also included a description of what she was last seen wearing.
“She was wearing a pink jacket and 3-4 inch heels,” Missy wrote in a post that has since been deleted. “The police have her phone. At this time a police report has been filed. If you have any information please come forward. Please share and help us find her!! #shirlenequigley amazing SWEET CARING SPIRIT who is LOVED by MANY! I NEED YALL TO REPOST get this info out there!”
NBC New York recently spoke with Quigley’s father, who said he became concerned about his daughter after she didn’t call him for their daily 6 p.m. chat. Police found the dance teacher’s phone at a bridal shop in Chelsea.
“I just want her to come home, or if someone has her to let her be,” he said. “She’s everything to me. She’s why I live.”
Her father added that Quigley recently seemed “euphoric” and made an odd comment to a friend, saying, “Get ready, it’s about to happen and I’m going to need you to sub for me.”
