Did the MTV Video Music Awards help rekindle some romance between Rihanna and Drake?
The dating rumors began swirling when Rihanna and Drake were seen leaving the VMAs after-party at PhD at the Dream Downtown hotel shortly after each other on Sunday night, RumorFix noted. Both attended the MTV event in Brooklyn earlier that evening.
E! News reports the "Right Now" singer actually reconnected with the rapper days earlier at a Lower East Side hotspot. She joined him and a group of 10 around 11 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 23, for some lobster and cocktails.
"They sat in a back room, the lights were dimmed, and there was sort of a barricade of tables blocking their group off," a source told E!. "Drake and Rihanna sat right across the table from one another. They were avoiding photos, and the security kindly asked some fans to leave, because they were trying to get too close."
However, it might have just been a platonic reunion.
"They looked like they were just having fun," a restaurant goer told OMG! Yahoo! of Rihanna and Drake's interactions. "It didn't seem romantic or overly flirty."
Drake admitted to having previously dated Rihanna during an interview in April. He mentioned the romance when discussing her ex, Chris Brown, and their ongoing feud.
"Don't ask me sh*t about that man when I come up there and leave that man alone. Stop preying on his insecurities," he said about Brown. "His insecurities are the fact that I make better music than him, that I'm more popping than him and that at one point in life the woman that he loves fell into my lap. I did what a real n***a would do and treated her with respect."
Last June, things boiled over between the two when they got into a brawl at NYC's W.i.P. nightclub over comments made about Rihanna.
Rihanna and Brown split in the spring after getting back together late last year following his 2009 assault against her. He recently got back with his other ex, model Karrueche Tran.
