A new time-lapse video of Rio de Janeiro by photographer Joe Capra wonderfully captures the color, energy and immensity of Brazil's second-largest city.
Using three small digital cameras, Capra filmed the former Brazilian capital over the course of a week while on a business trip last summer. The resulting video (above) took 5 months to complete, the photographer told HuffPost.
The video shows Rio in all its glory -- from the night sky lit purple by city lights, to the towering Christ the Redeemer statue on Corcovado Mountain, to the crowded favelas, to sailboats bobbing in Guanabara Bay and more.
Not all the shots in the video are from Rio, however. Capra also included footage from Iguazu Falls on the Brazil-Argentina border.
The 34-year-old Los Angeles-based photographer, who has traveled the world making time-lapse videos for clients (and independently), shot the Rio video in resolutions up to 10 times the size of normal HD footage, which partly explains why it looks so mouth-wateringly amazing.
