Ro Khanna, the attorney and former U.S. trade representative, was defeated by Rep. Mike Honda in the race to represent California's 17th District.

The contest between the two Democrats was one of this cycle's most heated. Khanna billed himself as a tech-savvy alternative to Honda, a seven-term congressman, while the veteran Honda touted his commitment to his district's working families. Each candidate's endorsements reflected the warring wings of the Democratic party: While Honda was backed by labor unions, progressive groups and Democrats like Nancy Pelosi and Jerry Brown, Khanna picked up endorsements from tech celebrities like Sean Parker and Sheryl Sandberg as well as the Silicon Valley Chamber of Commerce.
